Leadership, Experience, and opportunity are all the key factors of Leo Club. Leo Club is an organization that started in Pennsylvania and has made its way into schools all over the United States. It’s a club that focuses on volunteering and helping local schools and people around them.
“I joined to get volunteer experience and to meet new people,” sophomore Jenna Ottens said. Millard South’s Leo Club is run by Elizabeth Motazedi. She just started leading the club this year. Leo Club has participated in many events with different schools in Millard. They volunteer at school carnivals, football games, and festivals. In the fall, they volunteer at trunk or treats, pumpkin walks and bell ringing.
“I liked the Bryan Elementary Pumpkin Walk,” Ottens said.
“It was fun seeing all the little kids in their costumes,” she said.
The Bryan Pumpkin Walk was one of the many fall events leo club did last year. It was a fun event for the members because they got to dress up for the Barbie theme and hand out candy. In the spring they volunteer for different events like carnivals and holiday related activities. They also help with things like the Pride Time bake sale to raise money for the Patriot Pantry.
Leo Club has two different roles the members can do. You can either be a member or you can be an officer. Members go to events and they meet once or twice a month but officers have more responsibilities. Officers meet separately during the month in addition to the regular group meetings.
“As an officer we arrange and figure out the volunteer events,” Kaylie Renner said. They also lead activities during the meetings and help to plan events.
Renner said.
It’s a very flexible club. You can attend as many events as you want to but you’re not required to go to them if you have something else going on. This club is also beneficial because you get to meet new people and have new opportunities.
“It’s super fun and it helps you talk to new people,” Ottens said.
All in all, Leo Club is a great group to be in. You can get volunteer hours while also having fun and participating in your school’s community. I would recommend anyone to join next year.
