Highlighting one of the top achievements for a high school football player, senior Chase Loftin has committed to play Division-1 football at Florida State University. Loftin, a six-foot-six tight end, decided to join the Patriots at the beginning of the year after having played for Elkhorn North High School. At Elkhorn North, he caught 11 touchdown passes and had 1017 yards over two seasons. These accolades made him the number two-ranked player in Nebraska and a top 30-ranked tight end in the nation.
Loftin has been interested in football since he was a kid.
“I’ve really been playing my whole life,” he said, “I started in 2nd grade, and my dad played in college, and my brothers played, too. I just kind of followed in their footsteps and began to love it.”
Loftin continued his passion into high school, becoming one of the state’s highest-regarded players. Meanwhile, Loftin has continued to put in the work in the classroom.
“I have him in class this semester.” He’s a great kid, he treats everybody like every student should and doesn’t act like he is above anybody else or anything like that regardless of all of his on-the-field accomplishments,” assistant football coach Taylor Mendenhall said.
Mendenhall is also one of Loftin’s classroom teachers.
“He acts like a professional, takes everything seriously, and he’s good in the classroom,” Mendenhall said.
Chase Loftin said he hopes to continue excelling in the field at Florida State and that he is “looking forward mostly to playing football [in college], getting better, hopefully making it to my dream to play in the NFL.”
Because of his accomplishments, Loftin was offered a scholarship by a multitude of colleges. Visiting and talking to coaches on the Florida State staff, Loftin knew that Florida State was the school for him.
“It just felt like home. I loved all of the coaches. I loved the place and the people. It just felt like the place for me,” he said.
