As the Holiday season approaches, many of us find ourselves turning towards Christmas movies for a dose of festive cheer. Whether it be a classic or a new movie they all provide an ample dosage. However, not all holiday films have been created equal. The mass production of Christmas movies has lowered the quality of most films over the years. While many of these films follow the path of predictable plots and cheesy romance, one new film offers a refreshing twist on the traditional holiday narrative. Unlike the typical Hallmark movie, the film Meet Me Next Christmas breaks the mold. It’s a good reminder that Christmas stories can be heartfelt and meaningful, not just the ordinary cliché.
“Meet Me Next Christmas” is a story about a woman named Layla who met two men at an airport on Christmas eve, one named Teddy and the other named James. Teddy isn’t too important until later in the story, while James makes an instant connection with Layla. As she was in a relationship, Layla couldn’t accept his advances so they made a deal. A year from that date if they were both single they would buy tickets to the Christmas eve Pentatonix concert to meet one another again. A year goes by and Layla is single so she tries to buy tickets to the concert only to learn they are sold out. Desperate Layla hires a concierge service in order to get a ticket by Christmas Eve.
Songs and music throughout the movie help tell the story as well. Most featured songs are sung by the singing group Pentatonix. This group takes on a funny and unique role in the film, creating an evermore wholesome feel. So if you’re a Pentatonix fan this movie is for you.
The adventure Layla goes on takes the viewers through a wild ride of ups and downs. A familiar face accompanies Layla throughout her journey, this face belonging to Teddy, her concierge. Their story has warmed the hearts of many fans, as well as providing many comical moments to laugh about, quickly pushing the movie to the top of the charts.
If you are looking for a feel good Christmas movie to watch this year I highly recommend Meet Me Next Christmas. Its engaging story line and heartfelt moments stand as a testament to the fact that Christmas movies don’t have to follow a predictable path to be enjoyable.
