For as long as I can remember, Christmas has been my favorite holiday. The lights, music, and overall excitement of the holiday make it the most memorable time of year. As I’ve gotten older though, Christmas has naturally lost some of the magic and excitement it previously had. Losing the anticipation of Santa delivering presents, or the elf on the shelf moving overnight has quickly taken some joy out of the holiday. But, I think there’s still so many more exciting things to enjoy about Christmas even as you get older. Even without the typical childhood magic of the holiday, Christmas still manages to be my favorite day of the year.
Now, I just love the anticipation of Christmas and Christmas Eve. I don’t think there’s anything that can compare to waiting and counting down the days until December 25th. Doing all the activities leading up to Christmas like shopping. Every year on Christmas I do at least some form of holiday shopping with my family. I love going to Target or the mall with my mom the weeks leading up to Christmas and seeing snow fall as you drive to the store. Also, going to Starbucks after shopping and getting an iced gingerbread chai is one of my favorite parts of Christmas.
Another thing I love about Christmas is going to look at lights. Every year my family and I drive through the Christmas light show at Werner Park. We’ve done it for the past 3 or 4 years and it’s become a tradition to do the week of Christmas.
Something else I love about Christmas is the music. Whether it’s classic songs like “Let it Snow” or more recent songs like “All I want for Christmas is you”, I can easily say Christmas music is my favorite genre. I think there’s just something about Christmas, or just winter in general, that no one can fully explain.
