This past month Millard South’s show choirs have started their seasons off with a bang with their premiere and first two competitions. After months of practice from the end of July to now, they look forward to improving and making great music.
Stage One is the all-girls Junior Varsity show choir and have worked through multiple costume struggles to get to the fantastic show they have now.
Their show is all about Jane Porter’s experience in the jungle.
“She begins by entering the jungle, scared of all the new things around her, and then throughout her time, learns her strength and that she does have a place in the wild,” explains Madison Pressler, one of the show choir directors.
South on Stage is the varsity mixed choir group. They perform a show all about villagers’ worlds getting shattered when a giant ruins the town. They band together and go to battle to defeat the giant. Through prop struggles and impressive singing and dancing, they defeat the giant, saving their town from its terrors.

Pressler shared her insights on what each show meant.
“Each show has its own way of showing why it’s important to lean on those around you and work together to overcome differences or get through challenging obstacles,” she said. Pressler said she wanted the audience to feel the weight of the choirs as a team working together to make beautiful music and achieve goals.
The choirs’ premiere was a hit and they continued to show off all their hard work in their first two competitions. Each competition brought Stage One home champion of their division and brought South on Stage to finals.
“I hope that each group can continue to grow as the season goes on. All of the students have worked so hard this year, and I am so excited that they get to share their stories with audiences all over the midwest,” Pressler said..
“Our performers, directors, show band, and crew of parents and students alike have worked their tails off and are so proud of what’s to come. [But] above all else, I hope that our students have fun and enjoy this season making memories with their friends and families,” Pressler said.
