Sanrio fans won’t need to travel far to pick up their favorite characters as a Miniso has opened at the Gateway Mall in Lincoln.

“I have been to a store like the one in Lincoln when I was in Japan last summer,” freshman Mirai Matsuzaki said. “You definitely see those kind of stores a lot in Japan.”

Miniso is a store originating from Guangzhou, China, opening its doors in 2013. The brand now has 200 locations in the U.S. but more than 7,000 locations worldwide.

“I would say Nebraska should get more stores like this because the demand for sanrio/cute stuff is increasing and it’s hard to find around here,” Matsuzaki said.

Focused on emulating Japanese design aesthetics, Miniso specializes in providing cute items like Sanrio, Chiikawa, and merchandise from Asian bands. This includes keychains, plushes, bags, beauty products, and snacks.

“My favorite sanrio character is definitely my melody,” Matsuzaki said.  She’s so bubbly and cute. I do have a ton of merch of her which includes t-shirts, stuffies, and stationery. It wasn’t too hard to find that stuff, but I got it from Japan,” Matsuzaki said.

Prices fall mainly between $10 to $20 per item right now but due to recently passed legislation, tariffs on foreign goods will cause the prices to rise.

The Gateway Mall is open Monday through Saturday 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from noon until 6 p.m.
