
LB 550, a bill that will allow students to be excused from school for 1 hour per week for religious instruction was packaged with another bill (LB 440) that provides for three weeks of paid sick leave for teachers. The package advanced out of the Education Committee but is not yet scheduled for the first round of floor debate.

LB 258, a bill that will change some provisions of the state minimum wage has advanced to final reading. The bill establishes a teen minimum wage of $13.50 for youth ages 14 and 15 that increases by 1.5% every 5 years. It also calls for a 90 day training wage for youth ages 16, 17 and 18. The 90-day training wage will be 75% of the state minimum wage, which will be $15 per hour starting in January 2026. The training wage will increase by 1.5% yearly.
