With around 2,500 students at Millard South there is always lots of creativity in the hallways. Whether it be someone’s hair, makeup, or even outfit: there is always something to admire as you walk from class to class. All styles are a form of self expression, some more complex and maximalistic than others, but none the less your choice of clothing is part of what makes you an individual.
Everything starts with inspiration. Inspiration can come from influencers, musicians, and actors alike.
“Billie Eilish has made a really really large impact on my style and fashion because I have always admired how she could just be herself without caring what anyone thinks,” junior Johanna Sievers said.
“She is probably my biggest inspiration, but I also have time periods that inspire my style; like 90’s streetwear. That’s a big influence on my style as well,” Sievers said.
Other than celebrity or item influence, what makes someone happy can also be why they dress up. B

eing happy in the way you look is the best way to feel confident.
“I dress the way I do because when I look good, I feel good. It is also a great way to express my creativity,” sophomore Mirai Matsuzaki explained.
Dressing for other people rather than yourself is surprisingly common in today’s world. But that doesn’t make it a good thing.
“I dress the way I do because being true to yourself is important, and that’s something I value in life,” sophomore Parker Joyce started.
“It makes me happier because I’m able to wear what I want without caring what others think,” sophomore Spencer Pueppke added.
Being able to dress up and wear the clothes you want can not only make yourself happier but also show people what you are all about.
“I for sure agree that fashion is a great way to express yourself. You can do so much with fashion and it’s a way for people to get a quick glance at what kind of person you are.” Matsuzaki added.
People tend to worry that decisions are forever, that when you make a decision you have to stay with it for the rest of your life.
“I think fashion is one of the best ways to express yourself. It’s not permanent, you can always change your style.” sophomore Lanie Tselentis
“I think it is very important for people to express themselves. I chose fashion to express myself because it says what I want to say when I sometimes can’t find the words.” Tselentis expressed.
Don’t be afraid to branch away from the crowd and express yourself in ways that make you happy. Students at Millard South have, and so can you.
