Choosing a path for the rest of my life as a senior is honestly the most terrifying thing ever.
As an overly committed student-athlete, I am not only involved in many clubs, but I also have lots of leadership responsibilities that take up my time. I am also a part of the Early College Program and will graduate with my associate’s degree. While this seems like a plus, it also makes the college decision even harder by making me choose a major right off the bat. However, in all of the stress and struggle of college planning, college visits are the one enjoyable part of looking to my future.
On each college visit, I have studied student life, academics, and dorms to make a decision. The University of Nebraska Omaha is a strong contender, partially due to its proximity (20 minutes from home) and the option to live in the dorms for independence.

My visit to UNO in September really showcased the campus community. The buildings felt put together, and the entire campus, including the dorms, is a compact 15-minute walk end-to-end. I was especially impressed by the dorms, which are mini apartment-style with private rooms, shared living rooms, and kitchens—a huge upgrade from standard single-room layouts. They use the RoomSync app for roommate matching, allowing students to swipe and chat with potential partners, something that brings a little fun to the college decision.
UNO’s amazing facilities were also a highlight of my trip. The UNO Wellness Center is a huge building with an elevated jogging track, an indoor spa, and a sauna/steam room (if you didn’t know, I LOVE saunas)—making campus life feel like an apartment complex with resort perks. Plus, as a person who goes to the gym at least four times a week, this was AMAZING. Additionally, the more than 200 student organizations and variety of dining options make getting involved easy, something I will need considering that as a high schooler, I never have a moment to sit because of activities.
The ultimate jaw dropper was the Rock wall, the centerpiece of the Outdoor Venture Center. As someone who grew up climbing in Colorado when visiting family, seeing this beauty was the highlight of my visit. Rock climbing is a passion of mine and something I would love to continue doing, and with this wall I can hopefully improve my skills and prepare for more outdoor climbs. The OVC offers Climbing Wall Programs/Clinics and, even better, organizes Adventure Trips for rock climbing, hiking, and skiing to places like Colorado. This makes my dream of returning to real, outdoor climbing a genuine possibility.
Despite struggling to pick a college and a major so quickly because of the Early College Program, plus deciding which clubs will follow me into the future, UNO’s amazing amenities, activities, and welcoming atmosphere make it a strong contender for my future.
