Greetings from Greece

A senior’s unforgettable summer abroad

There are lots of places in the world that many people can only dream of going to in their life. Senior Taliyah Winn was able to experience a whole month in Greece over the summer where she enjoyed all of the amazing cultures and experiences Greece has to offer.

“We stayed mostly in an AirB&B in Athens, but we also went to Delfi, Meteora, Crete, and Santorini,” Winn said.

There weren’t any crazy restrictions when it came to her travels in Greece which was good for her to enjoy the trip as best as possible.

“In Athens, since it’s such a big city, you even wear a mask in the crazy heat, but besides that, it worked in our favor,” Winn said. “We went very early into the tourism season and got to experience the museums and monuments without crazy crowds of people,” she said.

She also got to experience some things that she had never done before.

“We went on many tours around Athens and I got to go to the beach very often,” Winn said. “I had actually not been to the beach before going to Greece and it was a lot saltier than I imagined,” she said.

Also, when going to another country, you are bound to experience some shocking things you weren’t exactly expecting.

“I wasn’t expecting everyone to be so nice, everyone that we saw along the way was quick to make connections with us and almost everyone spoke English,” Winn said. “I tried to speak as much Greek as I could, but most people wanted to practice their English,” she said.

One of the most exciting things about visiting a new place is trying all the new foods.

“I tried so many new foods and of course, the gyros there are to die for,” Winn said. “There is also souvlaki (skewered chunks of meat) which I liked very much,” she said.

For your next vacation, if you manage to get the chance, Taliyah recommends you head to Greece without a doubt.

“If you ever have a chance to go, I heavily recommend it,” Winn said. “It is a welcoming country with a beautiful landscape and I can’t wait until I can go again,” she said.
