“This is the next generation of donors, so by becoming knowledgeable or experienced with the idea of donation and blood transfusion, that is going to save lives,” said Jessica Martin, a Red Cross blood drive technician.
The Red Cross was able to collect 40 units of blood, with 6 people donating Power Reds.
The Millard South drive was held to give the opportunity for students to give blood, attracting a good group of roughly 50 donating appointments. Aside from the gift card and t-shirt incentive, donors found the cause meaningful and a way to give back to the community. Blood is always in demand in hospitals, transfusion, studies, and much much more, so donating makes those operations possible.
“It’s important to give, because some day eventually you or someone you know might need blood and we have to keep everything replenished at all times,” technician Lauren Kusy said.
The blood drive offers a welcoming and safe attitude from the technicians surround you with, the process of donating is very structured and organized. With trained professionals assisting, it makes the operation especially smooth and easy.
“They (donors) are really what makes the job possible because everyone that donates is really, even the staff and volunteers, we’re all in this to save lives,” Martin said.
When asked about his experience as a first time donator, Brody Linnell, junior, said “Everyone there was great, they cooperated well, they asked me how I was doing, overall great experience.”
