The Millard South Unfed Bowling team made history last week, making their first-ever state appearance.

“It was amazing,” junior partner Brayden Schmieding said.  It was the first time in the school’s history. It felt amazing, and it was even more special, doing it with my teammates.”

“It was cool to win districts,” junior athlete Jerome Woolridge said. “I was excited when I knew we won.”

To punch their ticket to state, the team beat out Millard West to win District A-3.

“It felt really good beating Millard West to win the district,” sophomore partner Neko Manna sad. “We knew going in that we had a chance to win, we just had to bowl our best, and we did.”

Moving on to the state tournament, the team beat Bellevue West, then Lincoln Southeast to move on to the final four.

“It felt pretty good because both teams were pretty difficult, but somehow, we pulled through and won,” Schmieding said. 

In the round, the best of 5 games to win, the Patriots lost to the Millard North Mustangs, ending their season, losing by 24 pins.

“It was sad to lose, but we know we gave it all we had,” sophomore partner Issac Kirby said. “I’m proud of the team for how far we have come.”

While their season may be over, the season was one to remember.

“This season was the best season by far,” said Manna. “We did a lot better than anyone could have expected. I am proud of all of us.”
