Patriot volleyball is back in season. This year, varsity volleyball has gone seven to seven. The Patriots are putting in the work, at practice but also outside. Volleyball is a sport that has a necessity for a great team and that is what the Patriots are creating.
“The teams we have been playing have been pretty tough, and it’s not really about winning but it is,” sophomore Scotlyn Erwin said. “In my opinion, we just need to figure out how to play as a team.”
Working together and bonding as a team is one thing the Patriots are great at. Problems will arise and they know how to solve them. The team knows how to work together and that creates a family between these team members.
“So originally we all met up at one another’s house and just had a really long conversation about how we should be together and work as a team,” Erwin said.
The team has a strong sense of teamwork and they work hard to create this environment of success. The Pats collaborate at practice to better their plays and strengthen their offense and defense.
“We are super scrappy in the back row and we will get those big swings up and frustrate teams,” student manager senior Preston Fixemer said. “We also have crafty hitters who will frustrate other teams’ defenses,” he said.
Having a strong offense and defense along with well built plays is one part of the puzzle that makes up the Patriot Volleyball team.
Seniors are able to lead the team and mentor the underclassmen. This mentorship fosters their teamwork and collaboration.
“I try to be a leader on and off the court and give them support whenever they need it,” senior Sadie Stinson said. “I try not to make them not feel bad about themselves when they make a mistake.”
This leadership helps bring them together. This support for each other, helps them stay positive during games.
“We have good plays, we created cheers for each individual on our team. So when we have good plays we always get super excited,” Erwin said.
With this team coming together, it’s clear to see their confidence in their skill and each other.
