Action packed, funny, and wildly entertaining The Fall Guy is an exciting and enjoyable watch. Following a tragic accident, stunt guy Colt Seavers (Ryan Gosling) is ready to get back into the movie business and win back the heart of his current movie producer (Emily Blunt). However, to do that he must go on an action packed chase to figure out why famous movie star Tom Ryder (Aaron Taylor Johnson) has disappeared. While the film is not necessarily groundbreaking cinema it was still very enjoyable to watch and stands out as a solid action comedy movie.
On the comedy front of this movie Ryan Gosling’s performance carried as he perfectly encapsulated Colt as likable, charming, and very funny. For me Ryan Gosling sold this movie for me, his jokes always landed and his comedic timing was impeccable. The same can’t be said about some of the other actors but Gosling’s performance compensated for most of them. Also, the movie was filled with tons of references to other movies as it is a movie dedicated to the movie industry, stunt guys in particular of course. For a majority of the movie I didn’t mind the constant movie references but they occasionally felt too forced.
The action in this movie also did not disappoint. The explosions were big, the sound was loud, and of course the stunts were amazing. While I don’t think the movie did anything we haven’t seen before it didn’t do anything wrong either making it a pretty textbook entertaining action movie.
When I first watched the trailers for this movie I was expecting it to be an action romance but that was not really the case. While romance was a part of the plot it wasn’t very big as Blunts character was not present for a good portion of the movie. While the movie was still good I was a little disappointed we didn’t get more of her like I saw in the trailers.
Overall this movie was fun and entertaining which is good enough for me. If you go into it expecting a revolutionary movie you will be disappointed. But if you’re looking for a fun and easy to watch film to kick off the summer you’re sure to enjoy The Fall Guy even with its few faults.
