Plenty of opinions are floating around about when is the appropriate time to begin to indulge in Christmas activities. There’s a fine line between starting too early and starting at the perfect time. 

The best time to start decorating for Christmas is during the middle of November. It’s perfect outside since the weather is finally on the cooler side and little flurries of snow have yet to appear. It makes putting up Christmas lights much more enjoyable and prevents suffering in the ice-cold December weather.

Some people might say that Christmas decorations before Thanksgiving are way too early but I would have to disagree. Christmas is a season not just a holiday. The season begins with lights hanging on a house and eventually with your tree going up which puts the holiday into full swing. My tree doesn’t go up until after Thanksgiving so it’s not quite crossing that fine line.

 As much as I love Christmas it’s true that many people got way too large of a head start this year. I was driving home one day in the middle of October when I saw one of my neighbors putting up Christmas decorations. October has its own major holiday that already doesn’t get celebrated enough. Seeing Christmas decorations being set up that early just felt a bit wrong and looked all too out of place among the houses with Halloween decorations.

It is almost as if Christmas has begun drilling into and chipping away at the time reserved for other holidays. Crossing that fine line is becoming an ever-increasing theme as of late. At the rate things are going, Christmas might even begin stretching its reign into the summertime. If this continues, the holiday will lose the appeal of what makes it so festive and bright.
