As of August 25th, Playboi Carti’s “Antagonist Tour 2.0” (as it’s been dubbed,) as well as its dates and locations, have been announced. The tour will feature Playboi Carti as the headliner and other Opium members; Ken Carson, Destroy Lonely, Homixide Gang, and Apollo Red as the openers. The tour will begin in Salt Lake City, UT on October 3rd and end with a finale in Carti’s hometown of Atlanta, GA on December 1st. This isn’t the first time this tour has been announced though. In 2023, Carti announced the Antagonist Tour, which was meant to debut in the following year. Unfortunately the tour was postponed and then eventually cancelled due to lack of new music, ticket sales issues, and most significantly, legal issues with members of Homixide Gang (allegedly involving gang-related racketeering charges.) The issues involving said members have since been resolved, which likely led to the revival of the tour.
Now, Carti, having been in the mainstream for around 10 years now, is facing many allegations about being “washed.” Before 2020 and the release of his second most recent album, Whole Lotta Red, it was hard to find a Carti fan who would claim he was washed or that he was on a decline, but when Whole Lotta Red released, it was initially not well received by audiences. Whole Lotta Red wholly introduced a new vibe into Carti’s discography, a unique genre called “rage music.” Through the initial months of the album’s release, the general consensus was that it was not a good album, but after a while, people began to change their opinions. This further solidified the opinion that many fans had; that Carti was a pioneer and an influence in music. Despite this, the “washed” allegations revived themselves a couple years later when Carti had yet to drop an album after teasing for a long time and the cancellation of his original “Antagonist Tour” did not help his case.
Finally, in 2025, he released I AM MUSIC, his fourth studio album to date. The reactions to the release of the album, as observed by not just myself, but many others, closely reflects the reactions to the release of Whole Lotta Red, in 2020. It was released in March of this year, and was not well received by many, including some of Carti’s fans themselves. Now that it’s about half a year since the release, I’ve noticed that the general opinions about the album have shifted. Most people are listening to and/or posting to songs off the album, when just a few months ago they were criticizing it for its bad mixing, excessive prod tags, and “corny” sound effects. So, the question still stands; is Playboi Carti washed? But, better yet, will this affect his tour?
