After two very successful seasons, fans were anxiously looking forward to the final season of “The Summer I Turned Pretty.” The show premiered on July 16 and since then released weekly episodes until Sept. 17. After the series finale, a lot of watchers had mixed feelings about the season as a whole. For some, it exceeded expectations and was all they hoped for. For others, it was disappointing.
“It made me feel disappointed,” sophomore Jazmin Dominguez-Gomez says. “I felt like Belly was barely in Paris for almost a year, and Conrad shows up thinking he can still get Belly (which he does), but I feel like Belly should’ve figured it out for herself.” Gomez said she had high expectations for this season, especially the ending. When she eventually finished it, she was left feeling conflicted on whether or not the show reached its full potential. “I think it did, but it didn’t. There were a lot of cliffhangers for each episode and twists, so it kept me hooked throughout the entire season,” Gomez says.
“It was better than I expected it to be,” Sorynn Molgaard said.” “I thought team Jeremiah was going to win.”
Molgaard is a firm member of ‘Team Conrad.’ This season exceeded her expectations. Her favorite parts were the Conrad and Belly moments eventually leading to them being the outlasting happy couple.
On the other hand, some people strongly disliked the season. “The ending to the season honestly made me super angry, not the fact that she ended up with Conrad, but the fact that she ran away to Paris,” freshman Kassie Bazis said. “I just hate Belly so much that I don’t think she should get a happy ending at all. She is literally the villain, and I have no respect for her after she destroyed a family. Personally, I just wanted Jeremiah, Steven, and Taylor to all get happy endings, and I did not get that.” Bazis is a member of ‘Team Jeremiah.’ She’d been rooting for them since season one. In the end, the season did and didn’t live up to her expectations. Not only did she not get the couple she wanted, but her hatred for the main character spoiled the season. “Really controversial take… I am team Jeremiah, despite everything that happened.” Bazis said. “The seasons kept getting progressively worse, and I hated all of the characters more than I ever have.”
