Travis Scott Does it Again

Travis+Scott+Does+it+Again

After his release of ‘ASTROWORLD’ 2018, many thought Travis Scott had found his new sound. A sound that is not only perfect for mainstream media and streaming but is also groundbreaking. However, in Travis Scott’s new album ‘Utopia,’ we can see that he’s found a new sound which combines previous elements from his previous works with his use of beautiful sonics, transcending synths, and constant beat switches.

In this rollercoaster of an album, no two songs are the same. Yet, Scott somehow flows each song into the next beautifully, making this chaotic catalog of a tracklist somehow feel like a cohesive story being told through a dark-psychedelic-trap lens. This can best be seen in his transitions from songs ‘MODERN JAM’ into ‘MY EYES’ and ‘FIEN’ into ‘DELRESTO (ECHOES)’, with songs like ‘MODERN JAM’ and ‘FIEN’ being intense, hyper, and loud, into tracks like ‘MY EYES’ and ‘DELESTRO (ECHOES)’ that are more low key, slower paced, and use more calm vocals.

Scott also uses this album to show off his more artistic and creative side, with almost each and every song sounding like nothing he’s ever done before. This can be seen best in his songs ‘HYENA’, ‘THANK GOD’, ‘SKITZO’, ‘TELEKINESIS’, and ‘TIL FURTHER NOTICE.’ Alongside this new element of artistry, he also brings back something he’s been good at for his whole career: his use of features. Some of his catalog’s best feature placement is seen in this album, with features from Drake, Playboi Carti, SZA, Future, Westside Gunn, Beyoncé, and more.

Since the release of his first solo album ‘Rodeo,’ Scott has continued to create groundbreaking and creative music that pushes the boundaries of Hip Hop as a whole, which has been not only continued, but exemplified with ‘Utopia.’ No longer can an argument be made against Scott’s impact on music, with this album officially cementing him as one of the greats, not only of his generation, but of all time. Even if you aren’t a hip hop or rap fan, this album isn’t something you want to miss.
