Taylor Swift’s “The life of A Showgirl” is a 12-track album that came out Oct. 3. This is Swift’s 12th studio album. According to Swift on her fiance Travis Kelce’s podcast “New Heights” the album was written while Swift was on her infamous Eras Tour in 2024 and is about her experience.
Despite all the criticism, I personally love this album. While it doesn’t top my favorite album “The Tortured Poets Department”, it’s also definitely not my least favorite of Swift’s discography.
I preordered two of the vinyls for this album and I’m super satisfied with the colors of the vinyls, the quality and the posters that came with them.
Upon first listen I did not enjoy the album, it wasn’t what I was expecting from Swift and was much different from her previous albums.
However the more I listen to it the more I enjoy the album. I also went to “The Official Release Party of a Showgirl” which I think helped me love the album even more.
The release party included “The Fate of Ophelia” music video, with behind the scenes. Along with lyric videos for all the songs and a brief description from Swift on what inspired the song.
The songs that really stood out to me were, “Eldest Daughter,” “Opailite,” “Wi$h Li$t,” and “The Life Of A Showgirl (Ft. Sabrina Carpenter).”
“Eldest Daughter” is my personal favorite track on this album. This song is a take on the stereotypical eldest daughter role.
Swift talks about having to pretend to be cool and tough when really all you want is a relationship where you feel safe and can let your walls down and be yourself. One lyric that really stuck out to me was
“Every eldest daughter was the first lamb to the slaughter, so we all dressed up as wolves and we looked fire.”
To me this lyric is about pretending to be someone you aren’t just to fit in to survive, which is why this song is without a doubt my favorite on this album.
I also really enjoyed “Opalite” which is about surviving the storm and finding your own happiness. Taylor talks about dancing through lightning or the tough things in life to get to the point you’re at today.
This song is definitely in my top 3 as it’s a great reminder that you can get through the rough times and often they lead to something great.
“Wi$h Li$t” stood out to me immediately when I listened to the album. It’s about how everyone has a different goal in life and Swift wants everyone to reach their goal, as they deserve them.
However she just wants to settle down and be happy. This stood out as I have similar dreams and I really connected to the lyrics.
Also with this album, there was a long awaited collaboration between Swift and Sabrina Carpenter in the title track.
I enjoyed this track and the way the two sounded together. I also really enjoyed how Swift ended the track with her “Eras Tour” outro to show wrapping up that chapter.
Ultimately I really enjoyed this album and the movie with it, and I’m excited to see everything Swift does with this new Era.
